The City of Madison, Minnesota is committed to making our website accessible to as many people as possible, including those who use assistive technologies such as screen readers, screen magnification software, and alternative keyboard input.
Our Approach to Accessibility
We use the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA as our guide. These internationally recognized guidelines cover a wide range of best practices for making web content usable by more people. We work to apply them as we add and update content on our site. Our website was audited for accessibility on May 30, 2018.
Accessibility is an ongoing effort. Our website changes over time, and there is no way to confirm that every page works for every user in every situation. Some older content, including PDFs and other documents, may not yet be fully accessible. If you need information in a different format, please contact us and we’ll provide it.
Tools That Can Help
Most browsers and devices include built-in features that can make websites easier to use:
- Text size: Zoom in or out with Ctrl and + or – (Cmd on a Mac).
- Keyboard navigation: Press Tab to move forward through links and buttons, and Shift+Tab to move back.
- Screen readers: Free options include NVDA for Windows and VoiceOver, which is built into Mac and iPhone.
- Contrast: Windows and macOS both offer high contrast or increased contrast settings.
Third-Party Content
Our site may link to or use tools and websites run by other organizations. We can’t guarantee the accessibility of content we don’t control.
